Unexpectedly quiet – looks like the Christmas exodus from London has begun already.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sunny Republic - St Wite's Ale5.00ExcellentDark brown, richly malty, distinctive Belgian yeast taste. A pretty authentic beer in the Abbey Dubbel style.

Good to catch up with some old faces in here. Price rise evident – now (I think) £2.49 a pint.

2030 hours visit. Always so much choice here.

Fanö Bryghus - Port Stout with Blackberries7.50ExcellentOn handpump from Denmark. Like a rich red fruit wine. £2.40 per half pint and a long lingering sipping choice.

Weekday lunchtime, we were a large group meeting a friend who had recovered from a heart attack so we rather took over one end of the pub.

Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Citra3.10Exceptional
14 Jun 2012 (Stephen Harris)
I have not been in here since my bag was stolen here, back in March – that event coming just shortly after a friend was glassed in here by some lunatic. But I have to see someone who frequents the pub and decide it is time to forgive and forget. Also, there is one very special beer I want to try. I did not list all the wide range of beers available.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Big MoFo Stout10.50ExceptionalBrewed here by the great man Mikkeller himself. This sample on keg dispense. The first impression is of a big hop hit, but this is soon lost into a smooth, black, velvety, stoutiness. That’s two ‘exceptional’ stouts in two days.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Pink IPA6.70Not Tried
10 Feb 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Quite a crowd in, with most of the usual suspects present. I think it would be fair to say that not all of the long list of Brodie’s beers available were in 100% tip-top condition.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Citra3.10ExcellentYellow in colour and fizzing with fresh grapefruity tastes.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Awesomestow IPA7.00ExcellentStrikingly hoppy. Easy-drinking for its strength.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Hoxton Special IPA6.60AcceptableGolden, strong and hoppy, but a bit too near the end of the barrel for comfort, and flavours a bit muted as a consequence.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Whitechapel Weizen4.50UndrinkableCloudy and quite hoppy, but I had to send this one back as being in unacceptable condition.

Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - London Fields Pale Ale4.00ExceptionalLondon Fields Pale Ale to give it its full name. Stunningly good.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Bethnal Green Bitter4.00Excellentthis is now Brodie's standard bitter. Mid brown, with Crystal malt and Target and Challenger hops. In superb form.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Dalston Black IPA7.00ExcellentManages to be both hoppy and fruity. Already a classic of the emerging Black IPA style.

Early evening after Orient knocked Bromley out the cup. England's friendly vs Spain was being shown but a lot of people left when it finished leaving the pub a little quiet. A few beers drunk by my drinking buddies were hazy so I steered clear of those. £1.99 per pint currently, but too many people were drinking fizz! Other beers may have been available!

The penultimate call on our tour of London pubs before heading for Stratford International. We were absolutely spoilt for choice with the range of beers on offer at affordable prices.

Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Elizabethan15.00ExcellentThis beer is actually 22% ABV but the drop down menu will not let me input above 15%. Three of us shared a third of a pint between us. Jet black in colour, very sweet, and reminiscent of a glass of port.

The pub is found in Leyton, Greater London, E10 6AE.

Community local in the Bakers Arms area of Leyton, in High Road Leyton, with a large comfortable dark wooden interior. The pub was present here by 1855 and was acquired by Charrington’s Brewery from Truman’s in 1870 – in later years it passed to Ind Coope. It was rebuilt as we know it today in 1897, on a slightly smaller site than its predecessor. Used to be famous for a good selection of Brodie's beer which were brewed in the former stable block to the rear. Sold on and the brewery has been relocated outside London. Refurbished and reopened under new ownership in late-May 2018. Reported late 2022 no long selling real ale. 2023 reported back selling real ale.

We have visited this pub 54 times, seen 131 different beers and tried 82 of them.
