09 Mar 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Unrivalled hospitality, selection of ales and black pudding! Thank you.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Salopian - Oracle4.00ExceptionalOn sparkling form and delicious. One of the best.
McGivern Ales - Bridge Pale3.90ExceptionalA star is born. First choice this evening and didn't disappoint.
Brecon - Twilight Beacons4.00GoodDark golden beer with flavours coming from all directions.
Facer's - Sunny Bitter4.20GoodToasty malts and good hop character, well balanced.
05 Mar 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Normal sort of chilled out early evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Purple Moose - Glaslyn Ale4.20GoodVery good all round bitter / pale ale. Lots going on in the glass, would happily spend an evening drinking this beer.
Ossett - Big Red4.00GoodNever fail to be disappointed by red ales. This was no exception. Crystal clear conker red in colour, good lasting beige head and in superb condition. Tasted thin and slightly bitter / sweet and vaguely dry.
Sandstone - Emerald4.20GoodA sharp and tangy bitter.
04 Mar 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Relax and unwind.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hobsons - Mild3.20ExcellentHaven't had a pint designated as a mild for over thirty years, so I was a little apprehensive. This was nutty and earthy and packed with flavour. Good body and a lush head. Will not hesitate in future.
Facer's - Flintshire Bitter3.70GoodGood medium bitter.
Tiny Rebel - Billabong Aussie Pale Ale4.60GoodNo nonsense, hoppy / citrus pale ale. Good malt and not too lemony. Excellent deep flavours, good body and balance.
02 Mar 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Congratulations to all connected with The Bridge End - CAMRA Pub of the Year finalists yet again.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tiny Rebel - The Full Nelson4.80ExcellentBags of flavour in this fruity bitter. A little malt, a good combination of lychee and raspberry and then a reasonable bitter finish.
Salopian - Treasure Trove4.00GoodHas the distinctive style and taste associated with beers from this brewery - a variation on a theme but still very good.
Offbeat - Oddball Red4.80GoodNot sure what was particulrly 'Off Beat' or 'Odd Ball' about this. It was a very nice fruity and spicy, golden / red ale.
Conwy (Bragdy Conwy) - St. David's4.50GoodEnjoyed this dark bitter; had a good berry flavour in the background.
Liverpool Organic - Joseph Williamson 'Tunnale'4.00GoodA little light on flavours and thin on body, nevertheless, a decent pint.
26 Feb 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Relax and unwind for a oouple of hours.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Liverpool Organic - Liverpool Pale Ale4.00ExceptionalNectar, absolute nectar.
Conwy (Bragdy Conwy) - Scrum Down4.00GoodLight and crisp with delicate tastes. Nevertheless, satisfying.
Liverpool Organic - Liverpool Stout4.70GoodFragrant aroma. A stout and Turkish Delight smoothie, surprisingly not unpleasant. More of a novelty beer in my opinion.
24 Feb 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Great couple of hours with a good read, some good beer and a friendly atmosphere. Usual excellent standard of service.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Liverpool Organic - Liverpool Pale Ale4.00ExceptionalConsistently brilliant and today this was on top form.
McGivern Ales - Bridge Pale3.90ExceptionalA pale, malty, citrus / hoppy bitter. This is classy and up there with the likes of White Rat, Liverpool Organic Pale and Salopian Oracle. Full of flavour, each mouthful as fresh and bursting with flavour as the last. Good balance, good body, great condition and well presented. Incredibly good.
Tollgate - Tollgate Bitter4.30GoodEarthy bitter with a tangy, semi-dry finish.
20 Feb 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Pleasant, gentle, early evening session.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - ESB5.50GoodI've heard people wax lyrical about this beer for years. This was my first attempt. Seems to me that flavour is compromised for strength. A resiny, fairly strong, middle of the road ale. Not to my liking.
Tiny Rebel - FUBAR4.40GoodNice pale ale with good hop character and a fragrant taste that I couldn't identify. Slightly dry fibish - not bad.
Hastings - Hastings Porter4.50GoodUsual porter characteristics without being too heavy.
18 Feb 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Busy early Monday evening, warmed by a wonderful open fire and some great beer.
BeerABVScoreNotes
McGivern Ales - Gambit4.70ExcellentDarker beers aren't normally to my liking, this beer really has a lot going for it. Malty, nutty sweet and fruity all in good balance and very smooth. Inspired brewing.
Rooster's - Wild Mule3.90GoodMalty start and a good tangy, bitter kick.
Heavy Industry - Smoked Porter3.80GoodAll the flavours of a full blown porter without the heaviness. Cracking.
17 Feb 2013 (Bear & Ragged Staff)
Usual friendly and comfortable atmosphere, great selection of beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Blue Bee - Bees Knees Bitter4.00GoodDark brown bitter. Nicely nutty and hoppy, a little thin on body.
Blakemere (see also Northern) - Freshly Squeezed3.80GoodMalty and bitter / sweet. Very pleasant.
Northumberland - Fifty Shades Of Ale4.00GoodDistinctive aroma which is reflected in the taste. Fairly dry pale ale.
