Early evening. I’m on my own and look at the menu. “Nachos, £7 or £12 for sharing”. I order the £7 plate which I assume is not for sharing. An embarrassingly huge platter arrives, enough for at least three people. I must read menus more carefully and pay more attention to punctuation.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - Pale XX5.10ExcellentHazy pale gold. Masses of hop flavours
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - Single Batch Series No. 15.50ExcellentThe full murk. A golden NEIPA with Citra hops and some rye in the mix. Excellent.
29 Jul 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Today is the first wet day for so long; nobody can remember the last time it rained. It means that in mid-afternoon on a Sunday Matt B and myself have this place almost to ourselves when usually it would be busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - Dinner Ale5.20ExcellentA red / brown beer with lots of hops and underlying caramel.
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - House IPA6.90ExcellentMurky yellow / gold and very hoppy.

The weather has changed from winter to summer overnight and the entire evening clientele here are sitting outside.

News reaches me just as I am passing here that today’s football at Brisbane Road has been postponed following heavy rain. So I pop in for lunch and have an enormous plate of nachos.
BeerABVScoreNotes

My mate Robert doesn’t get let out of the house very often, but has an evening pass for today. He choses to meet here. It is unusually quiet tonight, with nine different beers available from the tanks.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - Pale XX No. 25.10ExcellentI love this style of beer – the trouble is that it makes most things taste dull in comparison.
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - IPA New England Special6.90ExcellentAnother cracker.
08 Dec 2017 (Stephen Harris)
Early Friday evening. It’s a cold one and few have ventured out, although starting to fill by the time I left. Eight beers to choose from.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - AUPA4.50ExcellentA typically in-your-face Howling Hops Pale Ale, this one very well-hopped with Australian varieties Ella, Topaz and Vic Secret.
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - Black Forest Gateau4.50ExcellentA black beer with a brown head. It tastes of cakes. And fruit.
21 Aug 2017 (Magnus Greel)
Impressive use of a cavernous warehouse building with a free brewery tour enroute to the gents! Fairly quiet on a Monday lunchtime with a handful of customers dotted about.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Howling Hops (Former brewery at Cock Tavern) - Pale Ale Custom De Luxe3.80GoodHazy as advertised, served in a 2/3 pint glass resembled pineapple juice but tasted sour and smoky, not to my palate.

Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - Kölsch4.60Not Tried
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - IPA New England Special6.90Not Tried

My second London Beer City event of the day. A new 2.5% Radler (shandy) is being launched here tonight by Square Root London. It is based on Howling Hops’ Das Koolsch. I’m not entering it on here as a beer, but it was very nice indeed (and free). I had a couple of regular beers too and a nice meal.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - Pale XX No. 25.10ExcellentLush, strong Pale Ale.
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - IPA New England Special6.90ExcellentExtra lush.

The pub is found in Hackney, Greater London, E9 5EN.

The Howling Hops Brewery was established in July 2012 in the cellar of the Cock Tavern at Hackney Central. Very cramped conditions limited output and the varied range of beers could generally only be found in the pub. June 2015 saw the opening of a substantially larger brewery in Queens Yard, Hackney Wick and the associated, large Taproom. This occupies a former industrial premises, with the brewery itself at one end and a large space occupied by trestle tables at the other. Outside seating is also available and there is also a kitchen and a café-style counter. Uniquely in London at present, all the beers are poured directly from the conditioning tanks. Nearly as unusually, beers are only sold in two-third pint measures. The brewery stands almost next door to Crate Brewery.

We have visited this pub 75 times, seen 88 different beers and tried 86 of them.
