03 Aug 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Down to five ales on when I arrived at lunchtime, but three put on during this, my first visit here, very impressive. Quiet, with just a few locals also enjoying the ales.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Miller's Ale (originally 4.5%)4.20AcceptableNow shown as 4.2%. Reddish amber in colour and brewed with rye which seems to impart an extreme bitterness to the beer which is not to my taste. Combined with a bitter hop, the finish is very dry and bitter. My score 9/20.
Wantsum - Red Raddle5.00AcceptableFresh on, more of a dark amber colour. One of the five hops used gives a sharp piney hop flavour which is not to my taste. The finish is sharp and bitter. My score 13/20.
Fyne - Jarl3.80Not TriedThis came on while I was there at lunchtime.
Sunny Republic - Huna Red4.20Not TriedThe final beer to come on during my lunchtime visit.

16:15 visit. Very convivial. A good time to come here with just a few in. Good conversation ensued with one regular Camra chap and a stranger from Chatham but originally from Deal, East Kent. Topic was accent's and disbelief that I originate from a little corner of South-East London but sound Kentish and look like a Rabbi?? And barman JC put two more ales on as we spoke, no doubt in prep for the busy jam session later on!
