After a pause to watch football in Leyton, my pub crawl picks up here in the early evening. The pub is crowded, and the CAMRA discount seems not to be available today.
Crate - IPA | 5.80 | | A very fruity, US-type pale ale. |

My pub crawl has grown to nearly 30-strong and we arrive here en masse from Hackney Wick station to find the brew-pub already jammed full of people. Many end up standing outside, despite the chilly weather. CAMRA discount available.

Warm enough to sit outside by the canal. Very tranquil watching the boats, ducks and swans go past.
Crate - IPA | 5.80 | | Amber strong bitter with a very good fruity hop character with citrus and tropical fruit flavours. Good malt balance. The finish is fruity and hoppy. My score 16/20. |
Crate - Golden Ale | 3.80 | | A well balanced golden ale with some citrus hop and a good malt base. My score 15/20. |

Our quest to try beer from all five Hackney breweries is completed here. Most of the group has not been here before and most seem to fall in love with the place. Weird to be literally in the glow of the Olympic floodlights. The pub is busy until late.
Crate - IPA | 5.80 | | A very fruity, amber-coloured, American-style pale ale. |
Crate - Lager | 4.80 | | I tried a half of the house-brewed, keg lager. I shall not bother again. Cold, fizzy and sweet – lowest common denominator stuff. |
Dark Star - Old Ale (aka Old Chestnut) | 4.00 | Not Tried
Crate - Golden Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried

After a mammoth eight hour stint in the Olympic Park, a friend and I are ready for some non-“Olympic Approved” catering and we head here for a beer and a pizza. Disappointingly, it is not as accessible from the Olympic park as it should be. We just miss the Crate IPA – they were busy brewing some more.
Crate - Golden Ale | 3.80 | | Decent golden bitter. |
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Truman's Runner | 4.00 | Not Tried
13 Jul 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Quiet in the early evening of just the second day of opening, and clearly still a bit ‘work-in-progress’ as they rush to be fully up and running in time for the adjacent Olympics. This brewery is even nearer to the main stadium than is Tap East.
Crate - Golden Ale | 3.80 | | Golden, soft and a bit creamy, some bitter hop. |
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Truman's Swift & Swallow | 3.90 | Not Tried
