20 Sep 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Lunchtime visit. This is clearly a very nice little pub along East Kent micro lines. Unfortunately today there are four very loud locals engaging in what they probably regard as witty banter, but which I find to be rather vulgar. In such a small space, there is no escape other than to look for an alternative venue nearby.
Newby Wyke - Orsino | 4.00 | | You can always rely on Newby Wyke to offer first class beers. This is pale gold in colour and has great hop tastes. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Green Hop Ale (2013) | 4.80 | | The first of this year’s green hop beers that I have drunk. It is an unusual one. Very murky, golden. Sharp and a touch sour. Not convinced that it was meant to be like this – has some characteristics of a roughly-filtered cider. |
Goddards - Duck's Folly | 5.20 | Not Tried
Sambrook's - Battersea Rye | 4.50 | Not Tried | Strictly-speaking, I don't think this was yet officially 'on'. |
07 Sep 2013 (HSB)
16:40 Good example of a micro-pub in its layout. Rather loud group occupied one corner. I was disappointed by the beer choice, I think that micro-pubs should support micro-breweries and to have two "national" beers out of a choice of four showed a distinct lack of imagination.
Baseline - Halcyon Hop Haze | 4.00 | | Not nice at all. Unfined. Far too fruity, tasted like cider on the turn. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Directors (use Banks's entry now please) | 4.80 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special) | 4.50 | Not Tried
Cotswold Spring - OSM (Old Sodbury Mild) | 3.90 | Not Tried
08 Aug 2013 (Philip Pirrip)
Early evening. Once again struck by how large the floorspace is here. Couple of couples and a young family were in. Later passing peek through the window showed it pretty full.
Goddards - Ale of Wight | 3.70
West Berkshire - Doctor Hexter's Healer | 5.00 | Not Tried
Woodforde's - Norfolk Nog | 4.60 | Not Tried
Brentwood - Marvellous Maple Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried
01 Aug 2013 (Pedro)
My first visit, much bigger than I expected. Cider range was disappointingly only Westons, but then told they concentrate on Ales! Since 29/11/12 they have had 274 different beers from 145 different breweries.
Batemans - Dark Mild | 3.00
Bushy's - Old Bushy Tail | 4.50
Frog Island - Natterjack (aka Pale) | 4.80
Buffy's - Norwich Terrier | 3.60

Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Milestone - American Pale Ale | 4.60 | Not Tried
