Quite late of a Tuesday evening. The pub quiz has again brought a big crowd here, but I find room to sit out in the back garden. Quickly though, I discover that the garden closes at 10pm.

Late evening visit, after watching football at Brisbane Road. Cooling equipment has been fitted in the cellar and cask beers have arrived – staff are horrified when I ask for a straight glass rather than a dimpled mug, deliveries of which have also arrived ‘for the ale drinkers’. Pub busy with a late-finishing quiz in progress.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Five Points - Five Points Pale4.40ExcellentA full-bodied Pale Ale.
Signature Brew - Session N.Z. hopped bitter (Pacifica)4.00ExcellentA Pacifica-hopped Bitter. On very good form.

Re-opening night and absolutely rammed. It took 20 minutes to get served, only to discover that no real ale would be available for the first couple of weeks – so I had a bottle instead. I have lots of memories of this pub from days past and will be back soon at a quieter time for a good look around.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goose Island - Goose Island IPA5.90GoodPoured from a bottle – a standard US-style IPA. Tasty but nothing really special.

The pub is found in Leyton, Greater London, E15 2BX.

This pub was established in 1887 as the King Harold, replacing the former Grenadier, which had stood further north in Leyton. It was a Savill Brothers pub (the local brewery at the time), eventually passing to Charrington’s. By the turn of the twenty-first century this pub had acquired an exceedingly seedy reputation. To nobody’s surprise, it eventually closed in 2015, but re-opened in July 2016 as the Leyton Star, much refurbished and beautified. It occupies a street corner position, close to Leyton tube station. A large single bar with an upstairs function room (formerly used as a gym). Rear garden. Four handpumps on the bar. CAMRA discount available.

We have visited this pub 74 times, seen 75 different beers and tried 52 of them.
