Like a felon returning to the scene of the crime, I decided to relive the Canterbury pub crawl of a week ago, this time with my wife in tow in case it all kicked off again later on. Debbie doesn't drink the ales so she gave her opinions on the pubs. We started at the Unicorn which she said was "good", fairly quiet Friday lunchtime, mainly middle-aged men sitting around the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA3.80GoodThe barrel went off as the barman was pouring my pint so I got the first out the new one. A bit hazy, golden with white bubbly head. Good sharp refreshing taste though. I could have had a few of these.

Saturday lunchtime crowd, but not too busy. Comfortable, traditional looking pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Archers - Village3.60AcceptableBrown bitter with white head. I suppose there was some hop at the end and some caramel in the mouth, but it was pretty one dimensional. Over all a pint I would usually avoid.

I had 10 minutes to spend before my train went from Canterbury West, so I thought I would pop in as the beer line up is normally pretty good. Some good beers on. Still a bit smokey for me, but there is now a non smoking area.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid3.70ExcellentI haven't had this in a bit and had forgotten how good it was. Lots of hop and good pale malt base. But this is about the hop.

Mid saturday afternoon, very pleasant sat in the garden in the sun. Which is a relief really as this pub can be smokey. Having said that, it normally has 4 beers on which are usually served well including a regular from Hopdaemon
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Incubus4.00AcceptablePity this wasn't better because at its best it is a cracking pint. This had a bit of sweetish fruit, but the head disappeared quickly and it was very thin and lacked its normal good finish

Tudor exterior leads to a central bar with rear rooms for bar billiards and TV showing Sky Sports. can be very smokey. 3-4 beers on with a good range of guests. Normally Shepherd Neame Master Brew, Caledonian Deuchars IPA and 2 guests on, one of which is often from Hopdaemon
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50AcceptableNot up to its usual top form
