Gorgeous day so came here for a pint in the beer garden. I really like this pub, probably my favourite in Canterbury.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Surrey Hills - Hammer Mild3.80ExcellentAlways pleased to see a mild on, and this one was very good. Very dark almost black with a nice roasted malt flavour. Good stuff.

My train was delayed by an incident with a driver at Minster, so I had to go to the pub didn't I? Very good pub with good interesting beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Crouch Vale - Amarillo5.00ExcellentPeach/apricot aroma. Lovely condition, strong golden peachy beer that rather stunned me.

Pretty quiet lateish in the evening. I had a spare 10 minutes before my train left for Ashford.

After finding that the New Inn and the Phoenix are closed on Saturday lunch times, we'd worked up a decent thirst by the time we got here. It wasn't very busy, a few people scattered around the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA3.80GoodI like this beer. It has a refreshing feel. Malt in the mouth, but with a sharpness and a clean finish.
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Bitter3.40AcceptableNot sure about this one. A bit watery in the mouth and a strange aroma of rubber.

My first visit since smoking ban, and it is so much nicer. Still one of the best real ale pubs in Canterbury and one of the most likely wehre you will have something interesting.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 73.80GoodVery acceptable, some caramel, some grassy hop, some hoppy zing on end.
Ringwood - Razorback3.80GoodVery fruity malty best bitter.

Like a felon returning to the scene of the crime, I decided to relive the Canterbury pub crawl of a week ago, this time with my wife in tow in case it all kicked off again later on. Debbie doesn't drink the ales so she gave her opinions on the pubs. We started at the Unicorn which she said was "good", fairly quiet Friday lunchtime, mainly middle-aged men sitting around the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA3.80GoodThe barrel went off as the barman was pouring my pint so I got the first out the new one. A bit hazy, golden with white bubbly head. Good sharp refreshing taste though. I could have had a few of these.

Saturday lunchtime crowd, but not too busy. Comfortable, traditional looking pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Archers - Village3.60AcceptableBrown bitter with white head. I suppose there was some hop at the end and some caramel in the mouth, but it was pretty one dimensional. Over all a pint I would usually avoid.

I had 10 minutes to spend before my train went from Canterbury West, so I thought I would pop in as the beer line up is normally pretty good. Some good beers on. Still a bit smokey for me, but there is now a non smoking area.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid3.70ExcellentI haven't had this in a bit and had forgotten how good it was. Lots of hop and good pale malt base. But this is about the hop.
