The pub was in CAMRAs national pub inventory and only 5 minutes detour from one of the motorway junctions on the way home. What a find. The landlord is known as Mick the Hat and he's the kind of landlord running the kind of pub I like. As we entered the small room consisting of a couple of tables, a real fire and a small bar next to the tap-room Mick welcomed us to "his front room". The views out of the window were across fields to distant trees, all under a wintry sky. As we left Mick asked us where we were off to next and then gave us, what proved to be, expert directions to the pub even though it was about 50 miles away! What a great pub and a great landlord.

Midday visit and 5 of us plus a local chap soon filled up the bar area. Friendly welcoming place retaining it's traditional pub atmosphere.

An old house that contains a front-room pub. The pub is listed in CAMRA’s National Inventory of pub interiors of outstanding historic interest as being one of fewer than 250 pubs left in Britain to have an interior of outstanding heritage, untouched by developers. The pub has no hand pumps and all the Hook Norton draught real ales are poured directly from casks with drinkers served through a hatch in the wall. The food is simple – fresh bread rolls normally with a choice of cheese, ham or beef fillings. The pub’s bar is for adults only but children are welcomed in the garden. Dogs are not permitted.
