Here for a works skittle evening. Lovelyt garden bordered by a little stream. The landlord provided an excellent curry at £5 a head. Frustrating game this skittles is - but great fun.

Butcombe - Gold | 4.40 | | |
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Pride of Sheffield | 4.00 | | Basic bitter. |

Fairly quiet, called in to pick up tickets for Crabble Mill Beer Festival. The Fox also have a beerfest this weekend.
Cottage - Hawker Fury | 4.90 | | Very nice bitter, some malt and good hop bite. |

Not too busy so we were able to get a seat looking over the garden. I like this pub but am always surprised by how narrow the bar is!
Archers - Real Lager | 4.00 | | Lager coloured surprise surprise. Very astringent flowery citric bitterness to it. Not sure I could drink very much of this |
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | Not Tried
Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale) | 4.20 | Not Tried
Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Tanglefoot (was 4.9%) | 4.70 | Not Tried

Here with Andrew, Jane and Martin. A bit quiet on a late Saturday lunchtime, but I did like both the interior and exterior of this pub. The garden is quite large with a pub skittle alley to one side. 4 hand pumps on the bar.
Archers - Real Lager | 4.00 | | Golden with white head. Dusty hop aroma, bit of hay. Reminded me of Fuller's Discovery. Fur coat, no knickers |
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | Not Tried
Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale) | 4.20 | Not Tried
Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Tanglefoot (was 4.9%) | 4.70 | Not Tried

Popped in about 9pm for a quick half and the place was packed. We were lucky to get a seat and there were plenty of people standing around the bar. A very friendly pub.
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Ward's Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Soft and appley with low level malt and a base bitter finish. A good session beer I would guess |
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | Not Tried
Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Tanglefoot (was 4.9%) | 4.70 | Not Tried
Young's - St George's Ale | 4.30 | Not Tried | I went to try it but it ran out as they poured. |
13 Aug 2005 (Andrew)
Sunny Saturday lunch time so we sat out in the lovely back garden. The garden is far enough away from the main road that all you can hear are the sea gulls and the wind in the chestnut tree.
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | | Very fruity, hoppy and fresh with a hit of apple. Pale golden in colour. |
Hydes - Celebration | 4.00 | | A sweet bitterness to start with followed by lots of malt on the finish. Again, not my kind of beer |
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Special | 4.30 | | Dark brown bitter with hops and some malt. Not my kind of beer really. |
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried

Visited about 9pm on a Tuesday night and it was busy. This was probably due to the pub quiz they were having. It had a friendly feel to it.
Archers - Farmer's Boy | 3.80 | | Golden brown with a nice gentle fruity bitterness to it. The finish was of rich caramel malt. I was really reminded of Goacher's Light at its best when I drank this. In fact I would have sworn that this was Goacher's Light in a blind tasting. |
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Cottage - Cromwells Revenge | 4.20 | Not Tried | Although I didn't have this I did have a sip and it reminded me of Larkins Porter |
