We arrived early evening by rail to find the area around the station in darkness. The station was using emergency lighting systems, and the pub was entirely candle lit and cash transactions being recorded on paper using an open till drawer. We were advised to head towards the Head of Steam at Huddersfield because of the possibility that trains would not be able to call at Dewsbury in darkness. I was not able to record the list of beers on offer.

This is a famous halt on the railway ‘Ale Trail’. There were two groups in during my visit – both around 20 strong. One group was attired in shabby coats and facial hair and equipped with plastic bags. The other in high heels, tight shorts and skimpy tops and armed with designer handbags. I positioned myself between the two.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Timothy Taylor - Dark Mild3.50ExcellentSmooth and malty with toffee and caramel flavours. Dryish finish. My score 16/20.
Anglo-Dutch - Sarah Barnes Stark Raven6.00GoodAnother take on the strong dark ruby mild style. This one is quite bitter from a combination of roast malt and a little hoppiness in the finish. My score 15/20.
