Very busy in here tonight. It looks like a lot of the trade is coming from the cluster of chain hotels which have sprung up in the area.

Mid-evening visit. Most customers seem to be here for ‘Steak Night’. Festival beers bore prominent tags giving the price as £3:15, but staff were advising that this was ‘wrong’ and the correct price was £2:99. When I suggested that perhaps they should take the labels off, I was told that none of the staff present were allowed to touch the pump clips.

Quick visit after work. Relative calm in here whilst all pubs around about are heaving. Nevertheless, my first sighting of the season of a legless City type in a paper crown.

Fairly new outlet on ground floor of modern building in Mansell Street. L-shaped with one bank of handpumps obcured by a large pillar as you walk in.
We have visited this pub 7 times, seen 29 different beers and tried 10 of them.
