Decided to hop off the 65 bus for an old times sake visit, just the one unexciting cask ale on offer - a far cry from the days of it's on site brewery. A few groups of mainly diners for a midweek early evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Timothy Taylor - Landlord4.30GoodJust the one national bland cask ale on, a snip at £6.70 a pint made even my eyes water..

12:50 Very quiet. Group of vicars having lunch and one other couple. Barmaid up on her beer. £4.25 a pint!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sambrook's - Lavender Hill (originally exclusively for Nicholson's)4.50GoodI don't normally like Sambrook's beers but this one is rather good.

Late lunchtime and the pub is packed out. A few just in for a drink and they are all wedged rather awkwardly around the bar area. I just stopped for a quick half – mainly to help recover from the shock of discovering that an adult ticket to enter Kew Gardens now costs £16 (up from 10p the first time I visited).

Still busy at 4:30 with lunchtime diners and we had to sit in the restaurant area for a while until space was freed up in the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Botanist - Sixty Five3.40ExcellentA dark red/brown mild with a thin, tan head. Malty and chocolatey and very slightly roasty. Not much evidence of hops. My favourite beer from this brewery so far.
Botanist - Kew Green4.80GoodOrange, cloudy, wheat beer. Sweetish and very fruity – with strawberry and raspberry flavours.
Botanist - Humulus Lupulus3.80AcceptableGolden and very hoppy, with a floral-type hop. Insufficient body to give balance. Very bitter aftertaste.

Although I was one of the first through the door at 12 noon, this large pub soon filled with young families out for Sunday lunch – toddlers everywhere. There seemed little interest in the home-brew at this particular session.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Botanist - OK Bitter4.20AcceptableOK stands here for ‘Origin Kew’, but the more usual meaning would not be inappropriate. Copper-coloured and malty and just a little bit raw.
Botanist - Skunk IPA5.80AcceptableA ‘Black IPA’. Very deep red in colour with a big, off-white head. Initial slight roast taste, then mostly astringent hops.

The pub is found in Kew, Greater London, TW9 3AA.

A large pub with a heavy emphasis on food, one of four surviving pubs which overlook Kew Green. Suddenly on the radar of beer enthusiasts when a small brewery was installed in September 2011. The kit stood in full view in the main bar area and various brewery-related events were organised. The pub was taken over by M&B in late 2013 and the brewery was closed and the equipment was subsequently removed for a new life at the Brewhouse & Kitchen in Islington.

We have visited this pub 7 times, seen 20 different beers and tried 10 of them.
