The Old Brewery (Young's)

Mid afternoon and busy with a steady stream of the many staff to-ing and fro-ing from the servery to the many outdoor and inside customers food orders. I believe this establishment has been taken over by Young's.
Banks's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood | 3.70
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special) | 4.50 | Not Tried

A tube strike and good weather adds up to an excuse for a cruise down the river from Waterloo to Greenwich after work and then straight in here for refreshment after the voyage. No cask beer available tonight. Pricey.
Meantime - Fool's Gold | 4.20 | | On keg dispense. Golden, cold and fizzy. Very good hop flavours but so heavily-carbonated that it had a metallic tang. |

Very busy in the early evening with some fraying of tempers around the bar over the level of pushing-in amongst impatient customers.
Meantime - Botanical Beer | 5.70 | | On keg dispense. This is a remarkable beer. A slightly sour, cloudy, orange-coloured, wheaty/saison type thing. It is flavoured with the ‘botanicals’ that go into gin: juniper, spices, ginger etc… Really nice. |
Dark Star - Brewers Reserve | 4.50 | | Clearly not the same beer as the one sold as Brewers Reserve in 2008. This is a dark, malty Brown Ale, with toffee and caramel tastes. |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried

First pub call on a long day touring some of the pub and cultural highlights of Greenwich. With HMS Illustrious moored on the Thames, half of London seems to have descended on Greenwich for the day, and this pub was rammed at 1pm.
Meantime - India Brown Ale | 6.00 | | On keg dispense, this beer is brewed here at the Old Brewery. It is an excellent blend of dark, roasted malts and citrusy hops – although more carbonated than I would like. |
Meantime - Multigrain Red Ale | 4.50 | | On keg dispense, this beer is brewed here at the Old Brewery. A complex beer, with sweet and fruity and caramel malt tastes. |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried

With such a prime location next to the Greenwich Olympic ‘Big Screen’, this pub was absolutely heaving on Friday evening. But they were coping well, with a large outside bar and loads of staff. Just one cask conditioned beer on today.
Meantime - Pacific Pale Ale | 4.00 | | Served on low-pressure keg dispense. A light, crisp, refreshing and fragrantly hoppy beer. |
Meantime - Strawberry Beer | 4.80 | | Served on low-pressure keg dispense. On one level, this was a really nice pale ale with a fresh strawberry taste. But it was spoilt for me by having an off-putting ‘cheesy’ smell. Interestingly, some people could not detect the smell at all and just found the beer to be lovely. |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried

I have spent the morning viewing the tall ships and other vessels gathering for tomorrow’s Royal Flotilla. Thirsty work and I adjourn here for a swift one. But just the one as this pub is famously expensive. Many other Meantime beers available.
Meantime - Weizenbock | 7.20 | | Brewed on-site and served by keg dispense. A dark wheat beer, quite sweet and with a hint of vanilla. |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Meantime - Friesian Pilsener | 5.50 | Not Tried | On keg dispense. |
