Pretty busy at around 9pm on a Saturday evening. I seemed to be in doggers corner, meeting various mutts who had dragged their owners from as far away as West Bridgeford and Beeston to be here. Top notch pork pies.
Silver Brewhouse (formerly Raw) - Hop Chocolate 4.80ExcellentVery dark and chocolaty. A hop presence too.
Flipside - Financial Groat4.80GoodAmber-coloured. A fairly easy-drinking Pale Ale.
Shiny - 4 Wood4.50GoodA standard brown Bitter – but well above average flavour I thought.

I last came here many years ago when it was a Hardy Hansons pub. I thought I could smell brewing when I entered, the barman told me I was wrong because they have not brewed since yesterday. Apparantly this is a new brewery and the beers should be on sale in about a fortnight's time. It seems that I will have to return to Derby.

Light and dark beer festival in progress here.
Hop Studio - Spooks Porter4.30ExceptionalBlack porter with a smooth well rounded flavour of sweet toffee and chocolate malts with hints of coffee. Some background hoppiness. Lingering sweet and malty finish. My score 18/20.
Tiny Rebel - Billabong Aussie Summer Ale4.60ExcellentFull flavoured pale and hoppy beer with tropical fruit and citrus flavours dominating. Good fruity hop finish. My score 16/20.
Mallinsons - Brewers Gold3.70GoodPale and hoppy with quite a bitter bite continuing to the finish. My score 15/20.

A good selection of ales in here, that is better on the day than some of its neighbours.
Kelham Island - Firestarter3.80ExcellentA low stength black porter packed full of flavour for its strength. Bittersweet malt and hop combination with hints of roast and chocolate, leading to a dryish finish. My score 16/20.

A few locals in, joined by some beer samplers doing the Derby pub trail. Friendly welcome from the landlord.
Muirhouse - Flaming Torch4.20AcceptableAmber beer with a sweetish and malt character and a frutiy finish. My score 14/20.
