The outside of this 19th century pub, believed to be dating from 1824, could be mistaken for a florists as adorned with trellis-work to its roof and window-boxes affixed with a riot of plant life. On my visit the daffodil variety was very much in evidence. It was packed on the inside with punters and also appealingly Second-World War artefacts to reflect its name. A rather large miniature Spitfire was dangling off the high ceiling and an internal doorway was marked "Operations Room" leading to the Thai food "mess" area at the rear and complete with a poster of Churchill pointing at you and proclaiming "Go To The Pub". A real collection to behold throughout! I saved myself for the next pub on my list, The Blue Stoops, for the next half though.

Very busy in the mid-evening. I was able to squeeze on to a table where two ladies of similar age to myself polished off a whole bottle of (expensive) red wine in less time that it took me to drink my pint.

Several years since I was last in this unchanging pub. It’s exactly as I remember it.

The pub is found in Kensington, Central London, W8 7LN.

One version of this pub’s history says that it was founded in 1824 as the Bedford Arms and within a couple of years had been renamed the Churchill Arms (i.e., around 50 years before the birth of Sir Winston Churchill – the man with whom the pub is usually associated). The pub’s own website however claims a foundation date of 1750 and says the pub took its current name after the Second World War. Either version could be correct or, indeed, a blend of the two. It is a large establishment, with several rooms to choose from. It is perhaps best known for its magnificent, year-round display of hanging baskets and its internal clutter (“an antiques shop hanging from the ceiling” according to the GBG). There is a Thai menu.

We have visited this pub 3 times, seen 8 different beers and tried 2 of them.
