Sunday lunchtime. I walked one and a half miles from the Elephant & Castle to tick off this heritage pub. Thought it had shut down because from the Old Kent both doors were firmly closed, the outside very tired and I couldn’t see any lights on. The door round the side however was open - and this barn of a boozer boasted just three other customers but no real ale. The CAMRA heritage entry warns that the pub has seen better days - and it really has - but I was shown around the heritage fixtures and fittings by a quite proud landlady. Had to settle for a lager - but only £4.70 a pint.

No real ale. Worthwhile for the interior alone.
