Just time to slot in a visit early evening before a match at Craven Cottage. Walked past the almost empty Chelsea Pensioner 20 metres away to find a warm and welcoming traditional pub. 2 bars and a very smart restaurant area at the back. Darts being played in the left hand bar. Friendly bar staff.

16:45 Last stop on the planned tour as the additional pubs had eaten into the time. Wedding party in the right hand bar.

Mid afternoon, the right hand bar was full with people wearing white carnations, and enjoying plates of sandwiches, so we occupied the other bar. The ordering of rounds was starting to get a bit confused so I missed out on a beer.

The pub is found in Chelsea, Greater London, SW10 9UJ.

Located in Billing Road just set back from the main road in the shadow of Chelsea FC football ground. A real inter-war time-warp set in a private, gated-off road. It was built in 1896 as the Prince of Wales, changed its name to Bedford Arms about ten years later and then to Fox and Pheasant in 1965. It was licensed simply as a beer house until as late as 1953. As you enter there is a small lobby with an off-sales hatch to the servery and doors to the public bar (left) and the rather larger saloon bar (right). Everything is quite low-key and what we see is typical of run-of-the-mill pub-fitting between the wars. The servery has glazed areas on each side, which house the spirits and glasses, etc. The rear doors and windows have attractive dimpled glass with green bands. All the fittings are from the inter-war refit as are some quite delightful tables and chairs with raked or curved legs. It’s a real pity the tiled frontage has been painted over. Ex Charrington. There are 2 handpumps in each of the 2 bars. Sold by Greene King to James Blunt the singer-songwriter in March 2017 and subsequently closed. Developments are awaited with bated breath. Re-opened in June 2018 with a conservatory added and a dining room upstairs too.

We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 4 different beers and tried 3 of them.
