Last pub on my first night in Newcastle, popped in for one, but when I saw that Straffe Hendrik blond was on tap, I had to have a half, even at £4.20 a pint. Studenty feel with a good selection of continental beers in bottle and on tap. Downstairs is some kind of comedy/music joint.
Phoenix - White Monk | 4.50 | | One of the better beers of the night. Good wheat/slightly soapy hops. Good citrus hops. Good beer. |
Black Sheep - Special Ale (previously Ale) | 4.40 | Not Tried
Hadrian and Border - Reivers IPA | 4.40 | Not Tried
Daleside - Old Legover (a.k.a. Country Stile) | 4.10 | Not Tried
23 Feb 2007 (Andrew)
Walked in off the street and went downstairs. The door at the bottom was locked although 2 old fellows were clearly inside sitting by a bar drinking. Went upstairs and found the bar open. It was fairly small and quite busy but Charlie and I managed to get a seat. Never did figure out how you get downstairs.
Jarrow - Rivet Catcher | 4.00 | | Golden beer with excellent earthy and grapefuity hops. Good underlying malt. |
