So we attacked (wel, walked to) Dunstanburgh Castle from the south this morning and arrived back here just before noon ready for some lunch. Already very busy. Hot and sunny but no food being served outside due to staff shortages. We had a very enjoyable drink though with the coast and castle as a backdrop. Very good house pale ale, Jolly’s Reward 4.0% - though the landlord said it was from Laine’s brewery - but that’s unlikely.

Here just before noon after a walk to Dunstanburgh Castle from where we spotted dolphins. Already quite busy - we sat outside with a lovely view over the small harbour with the castle in the distance and had moules. Idyllic.

Retrospective entry from my journal - holidaying in Low Newton:
First long walk - South to Dunstanburgh Castle - about 2 miles. The ruins of this huge fortress dominate the horizon from Newton - English Heritage, so free for us. Continued coastal to Craster ('a' as in lass) - about 1.5 miles. famous for kippers, quaint cul- de- sac tiny harbour. Jolly Fisherman for lunch.
