We came for a quick bit of exercise on Stodmarsh. The pub was busy but we managed to get a seat outside and watch the river go by.

There a play ground right next door and Isabel needed to expend some energy. It was her idea to go to the pub too (honest).

Shepherd Neame - The Faversham Steam Brewery - Whitstable Bay Pale Ale3.90GoodGravity. Condition okay. Shep's beers do seem to taste better on gravity I find.

Nice decor and very well laid out - I haven't been in here for years and it has a nice feel - restaurant area but also a number of casual drinking areas and a good, long terrace facing the river. Shame about the beer. Two ales, both on gravity.

A heat wave had hit East Kent and riverside pub-garden real estate was at a premium. We sat in the garden, roasting with a pint of master brew.

It's changed a bit since the last time I wad here. A bit more groovy farm-house now. Only 1beer on and that was on gravity.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70GoodNice mellow malt with hints of toffee and bark. May be MB is best on gravity.

Sat out on the decking overlooking the river. It would have been even nicer if they'd have cleared the tables of all the plates of half eaten food
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70AcceptableGood hoppy flavor with less of the caramel I usually associate with this beer

Beautifully set on the Stour river with boats moared up along the banks. Front of building is covered in ivy. Fairly modern decor around a central bar inside, with decking and garden on the river's edge. Pleasant for a pint on a hot day, watching the boats on the river.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70AcceptableMid brown session beer. Some hops, some malt. OK about sums it up

There were 4 handpumps all badged up as Shepheard Neame Master Brew but none were working during our visit. The pub itself needed a lick of paint and seemed to contain odd bits of furniture and clashing styles. I suspect that this pub makes most of its money from food in the summer.
