I really like this place - a real pub. Beer is in good nick too.

Evening. Friday Evening Group meeting at a most friendly pub with a very rural feel. Landlord has had a long association with the former Ridleys brewery people.

Early evening visit and the pub is busy and boisterous. I go in the bar with marginally less ‘singing’. Some people have clearly been in for a while. Will have to come back another time to get more of a feel for the pub.

Is there more than one beer with no name brewed here I wonder? Mine was clearly marked as being 4.3%. It was a straightforward, quaffing Bitter.

11:30 - 14:45 Yet another gathering of old railwaymen. An excellent time was had by all. A visit to the micro-brewery behind the bar was an added bonus.

The pub is found in Witham, Essex, CM8 2JP.
Interesting old pub, with a rural feel, six minutes walk from Witham railway station on the side away from the town centre in Church Street. Two bars and a further room that appears to have formerly been a shop. The old shop window contains an impressive display of glass soda siphons. Raised area in public bar accommodates a pool table and darts oche. 2 handpumps in public bar, 3 in the saloon but real ales are also served on gravity dispense direct from the cellar. At end of 2014 on the market for sale at £325,000. The pub's micro brewery was fully in view immediately behind the bar but was removed from site and mothballed in early 2015.
We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 11 different beers and tried 4 of them.
