6th visit of the outing: A Fuller's backstreet Victorian community pub and all four cask on still brewed at the historic Griffin Brewery in Chiswick, London, despite brewing operations being sold to Asahi in 2019. I had joined the couple I met earlier plus some others from the visiting SW London CAMRA branch and so stayed despite the not so local choice of real ales on. Busy it was by this mid-afternoon time but prompt, friendly service preceded our sit-down to the pub's rear.
| Dark Star - Hophead (was 3.8%) brewed by Fuller's | 3.40 | | This golden ale from the Chiswick-based brewery was literally being pulled up afresh following another cask running dry. Our timing therefore was spot on. It exhibited a truly frothy head and lacing you would have been immensely proud of for aiding covering the windows for the old wartime blackouts. A dry fruity first hit. A fruitiness rising from its citrus, orange, lemon and blackcurrant hoppy notes. A good dose of hoppy bitterness winning over from its blend of English and American hops before ebbing downwards in that sea of frothiness it was supremely holding onto. |

Just one other customer in this small but cosy pub with a centrally located bar allowing service from all sides.
| Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | | Another half a star lost as served ice cold which may have been appreciated on a hot summer's day! |

My first visit here and I nearly walked out as I sat at the bar for some considerable time without any sign of any staff in attendance anywhere. I sat and read the various Camra and Fullers in house award certificates until somebody eventually appeared. I would have appreciated a comment like "sorry to keep you waiting" but no such luck. Thankfully the beer was superb and worth the wait.

16:15 Nice little back street pub. Friendly atmosphere. Discussed the number of pubs in St Albans with another customer who claimed that St Albans is the most heavily pubbed city centre in Britain. The range of cask beers is advertised on a blackboard with an associated pump clip. Interestingly the keg Black Cab Stout was on the same board which initially caught out one of our party. The landlord gave us a sample in the face of our negative comments about fizz but I found it too gassy for my tastes.

Late Saturday afternoon and this is an ok Fullers pub in an area rich for pubs. I sat on the patio with my half of London Pride.
| Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | | Slightly nutty. Strong hop finish that is more astringent than leafy, so not as pleasant. Kept well though and you can't argue that it's not bitter, cos it is. Good example. |
