A much nicer visit than my last one in 2011! Brew tap - good own beers on, interesting old building. We sat out in the patio area in the shade of the warm sun.

Greed king with plenty of guest ales. Very polite helpful staff as everywhere in Norwich. Wrong coach and horses!

Last stop for a swift half before my train. Sat at a table with two Australian brothers, 78 and 73, and had a pleasant 20 minutes chatting to them.

I was surprised to realise on entry that I had never been here before. Crowded at 7:15pm, although many were just having a quick one before heading into the City. I was using it as a railway station waiting room.

Busy late on a Saturday afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Chalk Hill - Flintknappers' Strong Mild5.00ExcellentBlack strong mild on good form here with toffee and caramel malty sweetness and low hop rate. Some fruit in the finish. My score 16/20.

Pre-match drink. Norwich v Fulham - sought this out as a good beer pub - but rather intimidating for away fans - so had a swift one (can't remember of what) and headed for the Compleat Angler.

Very busy early on a Saturday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Chalk Hill - Old Tackle5.60GoodMid brown/red old style ale. Smooth mouthfeel with an earthy character. Maltiness fades to a characteristic dry finish. My score 15/20.
Chalk Hill - Flintknappers' Strong Mild5.00AcceptableSome caramel malt flavour, but generally rather thin with a very dry finish. My score 14/20.

Chalk Hill - Flintknappers' Strong Mild5.00AcceptableNot very sweet for a mild, some maltiness but a very dry, astringent finish. My score 14/20.

The start of our drinking on day 2 in Norwich. After a pretty good tour of the castle, we thought we deserved a drink, so we came here. Chalk Hill Brewery tap. Large single room with seating out the front of the building for smokers under cover. Long curved wooden bar, glass covered area to rear, some old street maps of the are on the walls. Solid wood furniture. Friday lunchtime with a mixture of locals and office workers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Chalk Hill - Old Tackle5.60AcceptableDeep chestnut, lasting beige head. Full tasting strong ale with some toasty malts, lots of rich dark fruit. Some hop on finish. The best of the Chalk Hill beers I've had.
Chalk Hill - Tap3.60PoorCopper, thin beige head. Thin session bitter, some butter, green apple on end. Poor.
Chalk Hill - Dreadnought4.90PoorChestnut with lasting beige head. Again slightly buttery, toffee. More malty fruit, rich fruits of the forest. Bit sickly. Tastes like the malts haven't been brewed out. Some minimal hop presence on end. Really sickly raspberry ripple flavour hangs on.
