Late lunchtime on a sunny October Thursday. Several others eating and drinking in the bar or by the moat. The lady behind the bar said her friend had recently taken on the food side after a period of closure. She'd certainly created a wonderfully English calm atmosphere.Outside, the brewery was calmly going about its business.

St Peter's - Best Bitter3.70ExcellentOn gravity dispense from behind the bar.Mid brown, malt based, but with hedgerow fruit. A classic Bitter,as deep as the Moat outside.

Probably the nicest place that I've had a beer. Set in the middle of countryside straight out of Constable, the old manor house has a restaurant and bar whilst the red brick old single storey outhouses contain the brewery, bottling room and shop. The garden and duck pond filled with carp add to the notion of a country idyll.

St Peter's - Mild3.70ExcellentRuby with thin beige head. Lovely spice/herb, malt, dark fruit aroma. Really good fullness in mouth. Nice choc too. Tingly on finish, bit more spice. Highly flavoured, distinctive, utterly drinkable mild. Lovely, juicy full fruits and roasty dry finish.

What a great place this is. It's in the middle of nowhere surrounded by fields for as far as you can see. The main building is a manor house with the outbuildings forming the brewery. There's a bottle shop on site too. Unfortunately I was driving.
