First of some 6 CAMRA-designated heritage pubs on this Saturday crawl dubbed Metroland Revisited and organised by the London Pubs Group. Only managed 4 of the 6 on list as went off-piste a couple of times as well. An authentic Tudor pub rather than mock-Tudor with oak beams, low ceilings, leaded lights in the windows, and an impressive open fireplace. Warm and prompt welcome from staff member and not overly busy for this early afternoon visit just after 1pm.

Mid evening another relaxed comfortable drinkers pub atmosphere bucking the trend in affluent areas to convert pubs to IKEA showrooms this survives.

16:00 Since my last visit here this pub has been recognised as a CAMRA Heritage Pub of Regional Importance. There has also been a change of Landlord and the lovely wooden bar counter has been painted Farrow & Ball matt green. Oh dear. It is frankly horrible. The rest of the pub is so far untouched and the bar counter stands out like a sore thumb. We had a problem with beer quality and the couple running the pub seemed to be more concerned with the speakers and the volume of the musak. Things do not look promising.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rebellion - Blonde4.30GoodNot tried before. Not a bad blonde.
3 Brewers of St. Albans - Classic English Ale4.00UndrinkableI did not order this but two chums did and I was asked for a second opinion. Pure vinegar. Changing it for another pint was not done with good grace. New cask etc. It was noticeable that the clip was not turned round afterwards.
