Final pint Friday evening on our last night nearby - we have enjoyed Suffolk and having a rather good local on our doorstep.

A quiet drink with my wife. Pleasantly busy. It seems we quite like having a good pub 50 metres away.
Cliff Quay - Sea Dog | 5.50 | | Really like this. |
Earl Soham - Victoria Bitter | 3.60 | | That ticks all the ales on offer so far here. |

Sunday evening. A smattering of customers inside and out. My wife and I chose inside today and listened to locals comparing horse-fly bites and bee stings.
Very good value here £3.20 to £3.40 a pint.
The Soham badged beers used to be brewed at this pub - but are now brewed by the Cliff Quay brewery in nearby Debenham.
Cliff Quay - Sea Dog | 5.50 | | Very good still.
|
Cliff Quay - Suhaili | 4.00 | | I couldn’t detect the spiciness promised - but then I struggle a bit with subtle flavours these days. |

Late afternoon. We have a holiday cottage less than 100 metres from here. It would be rude not to visit.
Probably largely unchanged since Ian and Andrew’s visit in 2007. A real gem. I will be back!

Early evening - back with the family - we chose the rear garden, the front garden is bigger but on the main road.
Same beers on as earlier.
Cliff Quay - Sea Dog | 5.50 | | A local warned me on my earlier visit not to have more than two pints of this. Had three, and a very good conversation with my daughter (who had a pint and a half). |

Pub at the southern end of an idyllic Suffolk village. Front bar, serves 2 rooms. Seating on green at front. 4 handpumps. Real fire, piano and Victorian prints on the walls. Busy Saturday lunchtime and I had the corned beef hash which was excellent.
Earl Soham - Albert Ale | 4.30 | | Chestnut, lasting beige head. Excellent condition. Strong hop and rich brown sugar malt aroma. Smooth in mouth, and then a big burst of hop on the finish. Really peppery. Decent best bitter, with a very heavy hop finish for an English beer. Malts are toffeeish. |
Earl Soham - Victoria Bitter | 3.60 | | Pale copper, thin off white head. Quite a hoppy session bitter, some toffee malt, good dusty drying finish. Some apricot fruit. Rather a nice session beer that has certainly got good hop. |
Earl Soham - Sir Roger's Porter | 4.10 | Not Tried | |

Great old pub with a L-Shaped layout. The 2 rooms are separated by a central fireplace. Out the front is the beer garden. This is the brewery tap for the Earl Soham brewery.
