Astonished in here to be charged £5:50 for my pint and refused the Taylor Walker chain’s 10% CAMRA discount on the grounds that I had ordered a ‘special beer’ that was not covered by the discount arrangement. Everybody I have mentioned this to says I should have just walked out – wish I had done. It was my third ever visit here and each one has been a wounding experience for one reason or another. Can’t think of any obvious reason why I might want to visit again.

Early evening and I am ahead of the crowds – I even find some vacant seats. Too good to be true as it turns out I am in a ‘reserved area’.

The pub is found in Covent Garden, Central London, WC2B 5TD.

This pub has been present at the corner of Drury Lane and Great Queen Street since around 1850, although was rebuilt at the time the road junction was widened. The single bar is essentially a large, square room with some slightly raised seating at the front. Pavement tables. CAMRA discount available at time of writing (in theory at least).

We have visited this pub twice, seen 8 different beers and tried 2 of them.
