Late evening re-visit, my preferred Wivenhoe pub of the day and sooooo easy to catch the train from too.

As a late latecomer (as usual) for our Friday Evening Group (usually a one pub per evening crowd) I found them walking towards here as I trekked to The Rose and Crown, the advertised venue. They had found the R&C far from being up to scratch so were to try pastures new here. A friendly house with not much standing room at least by the bar counter by the handpumps.

Second visit for a final pint before the train home, much busier this time with many standing around the bar area however myself and Phil P who'd just arrived found space at the bar to prop ourselves up.

First and obvious choice to kick off our mid afternoon four pub crawl here, a few other customers in this pleasant and relaxing drinker's pub. Worthy of note the NSE variant of the 'Jaffa Cake' upholstery from the long gone Class 309 units which used this line for over 30 years.

15:10 Opens at 14:00 four others in. Two chaps were discussing Rene Descartes and Emmanuel Kant, not a usual pub conversation.

The pub is found in Wivenhoe, Essex, CO7 9DH.
Single bar pub opposite the railway station and in Station Road. Some of the seating is upholstered with BR "Jaffa Cake" material as used in the Class 309 EMUs that used to run from London to Clacton. One L-shaped room with 3 handpumps. Wall bench garden seating extends around much of the outside of the pub to provide a garden feel.
We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 3 different beers and tried them all.
