8th and final visit of the outing to Broadstairs: Only my second since it has changed hands over the last year. Still as I remember it back in June and on earlier visits as very much the same railway-themed artwork and artefacts on display reflecting its close proximity to the station. 4 real ales on but all from the one brewery and for our early evening visit. Not overly busy compared to The Royston and to be seated in the elevated bar area and to move around in. Prompt and friendly service from the barman.
Kent - Cobnut | 4.10 | | Apparently just fresh on. To my reckoning, not yet awake from its slumber and so minus much head and lacing and not lasting on this Birling-based brew, north of West Malling, Kent. I do like the Cobnut ruby ale usually but not quite ready here. A hoppy bitterness rising. A roasted malty note or two it is mustering for sailing down my cakehole with a hint of nuttiness lingering. This ruby ale is named after cobnuts, a type of hazelnut that has been grown in Britain since the 17th century and traditionally in Kent, and they have variously made a cobnut soup or even a ginger cobnut cake. |
Kent - Prohibition | 4.80 | Not Tried
Kent - Madagascar | 4.80 | Not Tried
Kent - Valhalla | 5.00 | Not Tried | Shown on the blackboard as 4.4% and so the odd discerning punter or two might have believed it tasted a tad stronger and they would not have been wrong! |

I think my first visit since it has changed hands over the last year. Not a lot has changed inside in terms of the railway-themed artwork and artefacts on display and attributed to its close proximity to the station. Same good selection of real ales on and for my early evening visit and last of this outing to Broadstairs and not overly busy to be seated and move around in. Prompt and friendly service from the barman.
Brunswick - Red Car - Red IPA | 4.80 | | Very good head and lacing on this Derby-based, north-east of Burton-upon-Trent, red IPA and lasting. A very malty, caramel-infused, first hit. A dry bitterness gently rising up and aided by its Chinook and Summit hoppiness and lingering on. Possibly my first tasting of a Brunswick ale and a pleasure it was. The brewery has been going since 1991 and I see they do a good one for the Mind the Gap micro as here: Railway Porter, a classic English black porter at 4.3%. |
Mighty Oak - Jake the Snake | 4.00 | Not Tried
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Amber Best Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
06 Apr 2025 (Dosser)
3 beers on and a singer provided the background music.
Kent - Superdelic | 4.50 | | Tasted like a cross between mouthwash and whisky. Not pleasant. |

Kent - Extra Stout | 4.20 | Not Tried
26 Jul 2024 (Dosser)
3 Kent beers on but...chiller showed 18 so it was ice in the beer to make an acceptable temperature.
Kent - Prohibition | 4.80 | | Flavoursome and good with ice. |
Kent - Raspberry Beret | 4.80 | | Fine with ice |
21 Jul 2024 (Dosser)
3 beers on. Big crowd in watching a band. The chiller was constantly being opened and consequently the beers were all too warm.
Kent - Raspberry Beret | 4.80 | | Too fruity for me. And too warm but in good condition. |
Tonbridge - Velvet Raven | 5.20 | | Last one out. Not a good pint. £4. |
