Unusually quiet for a Thursday evening in London. Neither beer was much cop – not clear if this was cause or effect of the lack of patrons.

The pub is found in Clerkenwell, Central London, EC1R 1UY.

A small, back-street, former beer house, established in 1848. It was owned by the New River Company until 1922. The pub is situated behind Sadler's Wells theatre, hence its unusual name. Today it is a single-roomed, wood-panelled pub, with a small outside drinking area at the rear. Two handpumps on the bar. Formerly a Watney’s house, with some nice surviving green tiling on the exterior.

We have visited this pub once, seen 2 different beers and tried 1 of them.
