Jane, Isabel and I went for a walk along Tankerton Slopes. On the sea front a film crew was recording some shots of Suggs (from Madness) messing about in a beach hut. Jane sneaked back and pretended to read a poster of the tide times just to get another look. When we reached the pub it was beginning to fill up with people coming for their Sunday lunch. The staff were efficient and friendly.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Jarrow - McConnells Irish Stout4.60GoodMore like a modern mild (i.e. a low density stout). Quite a lot of coffee flavours with some milkiness. A bit too thin to be a stout. In very good condition though.
Shepherd Neame - Kent's Best4.10AcceptableSheps really ought to rename this beer because it really isn't. This one was a bit murky with a nutty flavours and some kind of sour/acidic undertones. It was drinkable but not great.

It was a lovely sunny day and we went for a very short walk along Tankerton Slopes. Jane fancied a packet of crisps and the Royal was near by.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Whitstable Bay Organic Ale4.50AcceptableThe initial flavours were really good; rose petal and turkish delight but they were immediately blasted out of the way by an overpowering base-bitterness.

I'd never realised how big this pub is. Anyway, we sat out in the garden for 10 minutes before leaving to catch our bus.

Shepherd Neame - Early Bird4.30GoodI liked this. Fresh, fruity (mellon and apple) with caramel and a hint of marmite. Good session beer.
