Hideaki dropped me off at the park and ride and I took the bus in. I sat on a bench by the entrance of the beer festival on Jesus Green and read the paper waiting for it to open. Enjoyable morning/afternoon session with some local drinkers sat on the same table and then I went out for the 2 hour kick out with some beers I had bottled and a German lager which I drank sat under a tree. Then I joined the Camra member queue to get back in which was a lot shorter than the regular queue. Phil Lowry turned up so I stayed a bit and then caught the train home.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Oblivion5.70ExceptionalBeer of the festival. I had this 3 times at least and bottled some for the journey home. Lots of American grapefruit hop, resiny, piney and then this warming alcoholic effect. Simply gorgeous stuff.
Son of Sid - Muck Cart Mild3.50ExcellentVery black with lasting thick tan head. Burnt raisin aroma. Lots of burnt raisin/currant fruit and brazil nuts too, quite thick in mouth. Oily/tarry and a highly roasted mild. Very tasty and distinctive. Chewy. Sit all day with it. Thickest blackish roastyest mild I’ve had . Very nutty.
Mighty Oak - Simply the Best4.40GoodCopper with thin beige head. Good condition. Aroma of toffee. A little biscuity in mouth, more toffee in swallow and then a dryish herbyish hop finish. Decent best bitter, very drinkable, could see me doing a session on it. Nothing flash, not overly mlaty. Does everything well.
Ascot - Anastasia's Stout5.00GoodBlack with lasting tan head. Rich roasty stout. Good in mouth, full yet, smooth. Bit of roast coffee. Good bunch of integrated flavours, toasty too. Lovely stout aroma, choc and coffee. Good. Lacks a bit of condition.
Buntingford - Anglian Two3.90GoodCopper with lasting beige head. Interestingly hoppy aroma. Nettley astringent. Peppery too. Seems to be dry hopped. Really nice hops over a decent golden ale, with enough caramel malt to carry the hops. Good herb/nettle/white pepper.
Cambridge Moonshine (see also Moonshine) - Red Watch4.50AcceptableDeep red with thin off whtie head. Definite bludberry on aroma. Base beer is a fairly simple bitter, some drying hop on finish. Fruit is restrainedly sweet. A little chalky and not totally integrated, but not bad, slightly sour hop finish is not very pleasant.
Wolf - Prairie Gold5.00AcceptableGold with lasting white head. Pretty standard drinkable strong golden beer. Some vague American citrus hops. Some syrupy citrus fruit. But fine if unexciting.
Organic Brewhouse - Charlie's Pride Lager5.30AcceptablePale gold with thick white head. Lemony lager aroma. It’s pretty good. More of a golden ale, but definitely not an ale yeast. bit of plastic/plasticine. I’ve had worse.

Met up with Hideaki on Jesus Green about 1 o'clock and we went in for a couple of hours. There is a kick out between 3 and 5 pm, but there are plenty of pubs to go to in Cambridge. I sat outside for the 2 days and had a good time chatting with the locals.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Milton - Worts and All6.50AcceptableGold, thin beige head. Hop and a bit of syrupy malt on aroma. Decent mid citrus fruit, sweetish due to alcohol. Reasonable, bit of hop and rose petal on finish. Bit too syrupy for me.

Sited on Jesus Green with plenty of seating outdoors, this is a well run festival. 2 marquees in a T shape accommodate the beers, brewery stands, food and assorted other stands, with most of the food stands outside around the perimeter. A decent selection of local, East Anglian and North and South beers. Foreign beer selection plus cider and perry.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 9 different beers and tried them all.
