At 12:05 I am the first customer of the day, following a pleasant stroll through the forest and fields from Epping Station. When I said I was unlikely to walk on further than Ongar, the barmaid replied “I don’t blame you; there’s absolutely nothing beyond Ongar”.

The pub is found in Toot Hill, Essex, CM5 9SD.

A venerable old village pub in pretty countryside, no longer as reachable by the Central Line as it used to be. There is a front patio and a rear car-park. Trade these days is mostly from those seeking food, so the pub is furnished accordingly. Once a Watney’s house, this pub now leans towards Greene King.

We have visited this pub once, seen 3 different beers and tried 1 of them.
