5th stop of the Horsham outing: According to CAMRA, still a Greene King-owned pub but not one of their beers in evidence and instead just the one cask on and from Signature Brew, based in East London, and founded in 2011. This establishment was also packed and with diners occupying every single table and so more of a restaurant than a pub! An impressive and massive old building built in 1898 as the Anchor Hotel. It was according to CAMRA also called 'Temperance' for a spell! In the 1920s the building was used as the Horsham Town Hall no less and in the early 1990s the site was a Lloyds Bank. Perhaps its spell being called 'Temperance' lives on with just one real ale on, on this visit. Not a seat to be had meant it was a quick visit to the bar to survey the one cask on, only! Not really the sort of place you go into to stand to drink either!

There is a food, drink and music festival on this weekend around the Carfax with several beer tents and brewery stands, but we break out for a pint in here at one stage. Pub quiet.

The pub is found in Horsham, West Sussex, RH12 1EU.

A large pub in the centre of Horsham. Has a big, split-level, open-plan bar and a small courtyard garden to the rear. Although built as the Anchor Hotel in the 19th century, this building had many years out of pub use (including a spell as the town hall) before re-opening as a pub in the 1990s. The pub has passed through several names and owners since then. It was branded for a while as a ‘Taylor Walker’ pub and still gives the 10% CAMRA discount.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 5 different beers and tried 1 of them.
