My second visit of the day and the last of this outing following The Musical Museum's beer festival it hosted, and staged by the Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood, and our subsequent visits to The Beehive, The Watermans Arms and The Black Dog Beer House. It was by now mid-evening and sadly a planned visit to the Express Tavern did not go to plan due a local football match next to that pub packing it out. I intended just a half before the train from Brentford but our party of two real ale drinkers saw others tucking into the food here and so did likewise and very tasty it was and speedy in its turnaround of about 10 minutes from ordering. Proper thick chips and even with parts of their jackets on accompanied the sizeable burger and salad.

Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Oliver's Island3.80GoodIt came again on my second visit of the day with good head and lacing, and lasting, on this locally produced Chiswick golden ale. It accompanied the burger and chips admirably with its fruity notes and biscuity maltiness. A touch of citrus-infused fruitiness and lingering floral hoppiness aided the food to glide down with ease.

My first visit of the day and just a couple of other customers in for this early afternoon half. This was after navigating my way from Brentford Station where I had breakfast just outside in a local café and before heading to The Musical Museum for the Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood's beer festival and where all their ales will be served from wooden casks. A warm welcome and prompt service for my half of cask ale. A real gem of a Victorian pub with many an original feature inside and out remaining in tact. Believed to be dating from the 1890s and just a corner or two from Brentford FC's Griffin Park stadium, hence the pub's name. It has a striking tower-like, polygonal corner to it and so shaped like a part of the fifty pence coin's sides. It also has a Griffin etched on the lower panes of its windows serving as privacy screens from passers-by. Wooden partitions between seating areas facing the U-shaped bar contain leaded stained glass windows with the word Griffin forming a part of it. There is more stained glass to behold over the front part of the bar's top shelf, facing the customers' side, where the glasses are housed. This pub, like The Beehive in the nearby high street, is operated independently from Fuller’s by the business owner and where in this case pub food is served unlike at The Beehive.

Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Oliver's Island3.80GoodIt came with good head and lacing on this locally produced Chiswick golden ale. A mildly fruity first hit. A biscuity maltiness alongside a hoppiness rising up on the taste buds. A touch of citrus fruitiness from orange peel and grapefruit and aided by floral and citrus hop-infusions lingering.

Early evening and fairly busy in this comfortable back street classic Fuller's style pub. Last of the four and final pub for today.
