This small pub in Rathbone Street was established in 1767 and rebuilt in its present form in 1897. Traditionally a Charrington’s House, it was acquired by Greene King in 1993. There is a second bar at first floor level. Former customers include writer Anthony Burgess, David Jason and Ian Dury. This is one of the few pubs around that breaks the convention of never depicting a living person on the pub sign. There are five handpumps on the bar. Reported freehold bought by McMullen in 2024.
