An early evening visit to a quiet pub. I pointed out that I thought they had got the pump clips muddled as the ‘Wandle’ I was drinking was in fact the Pumphouse Pale, advertised as ‘coming soon’; Wandle being a much darker, sweeter beer. “No mate, that’s definitely Wandle – we sell a lot of it here, it’s very popular” said the barman and I ended up apologising and stressing that I had not been complaining and that the beer was fine; I was just trying to be helpful. Awkward.
Sambrook's - Pumphouse Pale Ale4.20GoodBeing accidentally sold here as Wandle. Crisp and golden and relatively dry. Pretty good.

About The Steam Engine

Summary of Beer Scores

The pub is found in Waterloo, Central London, SE1 7BU.

A street corner pub rebuilt in its present form in the 1930s as an estate pub. It’s tucked away almost out of sight off the main road. Accommodation is available as well as an all-day burger menu. There is a tiny patio garden at the rear. Four handpumps on the bar.

We have visited this pub once, seen 2 different beers and tried 1 of them.
