Lunchtime in this unspoilt classic pub, my first visit to Halifax and a great place to start off another birthday crawl of around a dozen of us, we took over the right hand bar and enjoyed the atmosphere here. A selection of pork pies and pasties were on sale at a reasonable £1.60, I plumped for a caramalised onion pork pie which was delicious.

I have only been here before at busy sessions in the run-up to football matches at the nearby Shay stadium. So it's a pleasure to be here at a quiet time when I can pick which room to sit in.
