Traditional two bar proper pub, the left side bar was the cosier of the two with plush comfortable furnishings, whereas the right hand bar where we sat had a scruffier charm! Late afternoon and a few other drinkers enjoying a quiet pint in this gem of a pub.

Traditional local in Beacon Street, with the city’s best beer garden, overlooking the cathedral and also the site of an artillery battery which bombarded the cathedral during the Civil War. Inside, the central serving area serves a pub games-focused bar, and a cosy lounge. Snacks include a tempting selection of cheeses. Two or three guest ales are usually available, generally from local breweries.
