3rd visit of the outing: Cannot recall ever visiting Chipstead before and blessed we were with the weather to make it all the more of a pleasure walking from Bessels Green at Riverhead to this attractive village with two pubs surviving. This one really felt a proper pub in climbing in to note the dining areas were well away from the main bar area you first encounter. Said to be an independent pub, it was offering two of the nearby local brewery's ales from Westerham.

Westerham - George's Marvellous Medicine4.00GoodVery good head and lacing and lasting on this local brew of an English pale ale from down the road in Westerham where Robert Wickes in 2004 set up Westerham Brewery and so brining back a brewing history from early 1600s and with The Black Eagle Brewery established there in 1841. We were sitting around a fantastic real log fire in the main bar area but the beer was just slightly too chilled. Putting our hands close to the fire and then cupping our hands around our glasses soon remedied that. A good hoppy first bite. A gentle bitterness rising. A fruity hoppiness veering up and a pleasant hoppy bitter note tap dancing on my palate. A dry fruited jingle, jangle out and not tasting at all medicinal despite this house beer's name.

As I was in the village I decided to tick off both pubs. This one seems very food led with all tables laid up with cutlery. I was dircted to sit on a low sofa, table service only. First impressions can be wrong but I did not like this pub.
