Surrey Hills - Shere Drop | 4.20 | Good head and lacing on this local pale-coloured best bitter from Surrey Hills Brewery, based just outside Dorking at Denbies Wine Estate. The bitter was 2019 Gold Award CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain Competition (Overall Supreme Champion) no less! A first hit of grapefruit and lemon. It was followed by a pleasantly bitter and hoppy mouthfeel with a moreishly dry and malty aftertaste. | |

The pub is found in Dorking, Surrey, RH4 1BE.
Situated in the main High Street of Dorking, it is recorded that its predecessor, known as the Cross House, was on this site from at least 1278. Most of its rebuild is 18th century but some of it dates to the 15th and 16th centuries. Dickens was resident here whilst writing The Pickwick Papers. Believed to be one of England's oldest coaching inns, it is Grade II-listed. The pub was re-opened in 2024 by Heartwood Inns following being refurbished. It also has a separate restaurant and 56 guest bedrooms. The bar on my visit on 18th January 2025 offered the 3 regular cask beers listed by CAMRA's WhatPub and one guest cask ale.
We have visited this pub once, seen 4 different beers and tried 1 of them.
