Visits Details

22 Feb 2025 (Hogan Sampling)
First ever visit to it and undoubtedly the highlight of the day. Had been a wine bar and no doubt a pub previously as looks the part. The inside has a fine bar but does not dominate the space and sensibly to one side of an internal wall and so maximising seating areas. It has a long shelf and high stools facing the bar area so you can be almost sitting at the bar without preventing ease of access to the bar itself. It has a rear dining area as well through an internal doorway. Its looks very authentic and I especially like the tiling on the side of the bar incorporating the Allsopp's hand logo. Got there for late afternoon and a very knowledgeable barman told me all about all three cask beers in great detail. They also had a guest on which I had not tried before. They do not do thirds but no doubt tasters. The 3 halves of each type merely whet my appetite for me but had a few other historic pubs to also fit in. Will be back for sure and it was well patronised on my visit of over an hour.

Allsopp's (wherever it is actually brewed unknown) - IPA5.00ExceptionalSome 15 minutes after ordering this third half, its froth had all disappeared! Only joking! It was there still as if just poured moments before. A first hit of a biscuity sweetness. But a prevailing dryness overtook this. Like the pale tried just before, a caramel-infused sweetness lingered on the palette. Very moreish but this IPA was 6% and so one half sufficed for this visit. It was still only £3.25 for a half. A superb trio of beers on this visit!
Allsopp's (wherever it is actually brewed unknown) - Pale Ale4.00ExcellentI ordered this half at the same time as the 3rd half. Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer cash rather than card and so my only criticism but maybe this aids keeping their beer prices down in not having to spend time counting the cash. A foaming head was repeated for this very moreish pale ale and the lacing lasted the whole time on the side of the glass. A dry, hoppy first hit. A hint of fruity hops coupled by a dry and very slightly malty mouthfeel. The merest hint of caramel sweetness from these malts was lingering. Still the cheapest of the day compared to elsewhere and at just £3.00 for a half.
Allsopp's (wherever it is actually brewed unknown) - Best Bitter3.80ExcellentThe knowledgeable barman told me that it is all currently brewed in Leeds and my recent on-line research suggested Sheffield as I recalled and from the on-line CAMRA London Drinker article by Roger Warhurst and dated March 2022. Jamie Allsopp, proprietor, says "See you at the Bar with a pint of something foaming and delicious!" Did not see Jamie but tasted something that was presented as certainly "foaming" and the barman took time to fill to the top of my half glass in topping it. £2.75 a half and so the cheapest of this Central/West London outing by far. It had a very dry bitter, bitter first hit. Nothing sweet about it which I hate in a lot of bitters. Neither was there too much malt. All I could say was "Cor, cor, cor!" which is my beer lingo for meaning I am in seventh heaven and that it is a beer to die for! Extremely moreish and a superb dry bitterness lingering.
Heritage (formerly William Worthington Brewery) - Masterpiece5.60Not TriedSadly did not try but Allsopp's aptly-named guest from Heritage Brewing, actually in Burton-on-Trent where Allsopp's originated in 1730. This was alongside Allsopp's own "masterpieces" that I did manage to try and as I would describe them. Heritage Brewing, originally the William Worthington Brewery, was installed in 2011 within the fabric of the National Brewery Centre museum. Heritage Brewing Company claims it to be the oldest micro-brewery in the country. I will definitely be back to Allsopp's The Blue Stoops soon.

The pub is found in Kensington, Central London, W8 7LP.

The Blue Stoops, 127-129 Kensington Church Street, Kensington, London W8 7LP, opened its doors on 9th October 2024. To quote Jamie Allsopp, Proprietor: "An Allsopp’s pub will always somehow be rooted in the notion of The Blue Stoops, the Burton-on-Trent inn where my 9-times great grandfather first brewed Allsopp’s Ale in 1730." Using the original Allsopp's yeasts from the National Collection of Yeast Cultures in Norwich, Allsopp's started brewing in 2020.

We have visited this pub once, seen 4 different beers and tried 3 of them.
