Beer | ABV | Score | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
St Peter's - Organic Best Bitter | 4.10 | ![]() | My 5th beer: Very good head and lacing and lasting on this old fashioned-tasting bitter from Bungay, south-west of Beccles, in Suffolk. A very pleasingly bitter first hit. A moreish hoppiness from its organically grown hops rising up and a dry hoppy dryness pervading the mouthfeel. A good fruity hoppiness lingering. |
Acorn - Barnsley Bitter | 3.80 | ![]() | My 1st beer: Very good head and lacing on this South Yorkshire bitter from Barnsley. A very bitter first hit. A dry bitterness rising up in the caramel-infused mouthfeel. A hint of maltiness and a pleasantly dry hoppiness lingered on. |
Howling Hops (Brewed at Hackney Wick) - Saddle Up - Extra Special Bitter (Collaboration with Five Points) | 4.80 | ![]() | My 7th beer: Very good lasting head and lacing and from one of my favourite breweries in London as in Five Points, and jointly made with Howling Hops from Hackney Wick, on this Hackney-based premium bitter. An earthy and smokey first hit. A moreish bitterness rising up and a pleasant hoppy bitterness lingering from those US hops. |
Disruption IS Brewing (sub-brand of Ascot) - Memoirs of a Geezer | 4.20 | ![]() | My 2nd beer: Came with very good head and lacing, and lasting, on this Camberley, south-east of Reading, dark session bitter. A slightly sweetish bitterness on the first hit. A moreishly bitter and malty touch rising up in the mouthfeel and lingering. |
Crouch Vale - Blackwater Mild | 3.70 | ![]() | My 6th beer: This mild came with lasting head and lacing from South Woodham Ferrers on the Crouch Vale "rail ale trail" in Essex, going through Battlesbridge, Burnham-on-Crouch and Southminster, the latter of which is home to the Wibblers' Brewery. A mildly bitter first hit. A moreishly bitter carry-on in the mouthfeel with the odd fruity note rising up and a burnt maltiness pervading well in its aftertaste. |
Rudgate - Battle Axe | 4.20 | ![]() | My 4th beer: Very good head and lacing and lasting on this North Yorkshire session bitter from between Harrogate and York. A sharp bitterness in the first hit. A dry bitterness rising up and overtaking its initial sharpness on the first hit. A moreish malty sweetness presented itself in the lingering aftertaste. |
Kirkstall - Black Band Porter | 5.50 | ![]() | My 9th beer: Not great head and lacing on this porter from Leeds. A fruity bitter first hit. A moreishly chocolatey dry bitterness to die for rising up in the mouthfeel with the odd coffee-infused note and a mildly herbal hoppiness lingering. Made in tribute to Kirkstall Forge, the oldest forge in England, and named after the giant press that was at the heart of the operation. |
Leigh on Sea - Six Little Ships | 4.20 | ![]() | My 3rd beer: Came with very good head and lacing on this Essex session bitter and lasting. A moreishly dry bitter first hit. A pleasant bitterness rising up in the mouthfeel and a good hoppiness lingering from its seafaring hops: Admiral and Columbus. |
Five Points - 1895 Mild | 5.50 | ![]() | My 8th beer: Good head and lacing and lasting on this mild from Hackney and made with Turning Point from Knaresborough, north-east of Harrogate in Yorkshire. Auburn in colour and a very dry first hit. A moreishly malty sweetness rising up in its bitterness and following the 1895 recipe from Rose's Brewery in Malton, North Yorkshire, and so hence its name! Rose's Brewery was founded in 1767 and acquired by Tetley Walker Ltd in 1965 and brewing ceased in 1969 according to breweryhistory.com. |
