| Greene King - Hardys & Hansons Rock On | 4.20 | | Very good head and lacing and lasting well on this bitter now brewed by Greene King but still marketed on the pump clip as Hardys & Hansons. A fruited bitter first hit emanating from its fruity esters, referring to its primary aromatic compounds forming during fermentation when yeast enzymes combine an alcohol with an organic acid. This for me has created a hint of pear-drop flavourings from its yeast. A gentle maltiness climbing with hints of toffee from special brewing sugars and a small addition of crystal malt. A hoppy bitterness assisted by its herbal notes from dry hopping with Challenger, Pilgrim and Goldings hops assisting its slide down with some lingering dry fruitiness. |

This former Enterprise pub and 17th century coaching inn is now a free house with a range of four cask beers according to the local CAMRA branch. It has dedicated space for drinkers and diners and provides tv coverage of sport including rugby and football. It is marked externally by its overhanging ornate ironwork sign over its entrance door and is open each day from 11am except for on Sundays when it is open from 12 noon from checking for a visit at the end of January 2026. It provides food every day but for Monday and Tuesday at lunchtime and in the evening. It also caters for birthday parties, business meetings with a dedicated private room with a 75-inch smart tv and wedding parties with a private function room available for the reception. It has 16 en-suite letting rooms. On a visit at the end of January 2026 there were 3 cask ales on, all from Greene King including one from their Hardy and Hansons range and where this brewery was also known as the Kimberley Brewery, the oldest independent brewery in Nottinghamshire with a history spanning over 170 years but in 2006, the company was bought by Greene King, and one from the Morland Brewery range and where this brewery was founded in 1711 by John Morland in West Ilsley, Berkshire, and is now brewed by Greene King from their takeover in 1999, with the Abingdon brewery closing for good in February 2000.
