Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Hogan SamplingGood25 Apr 2025 Second night on for this Bristol bitter and very good head and lacing still. Tasting even better than on its first night. A proper old fashioned bitter and certainly presented in its first hit on my palate. A maltiness coming to the fore and a dry bitterness lingering. From those Gold and Goldings hops, a pleasantly dry hoppiness on my lips to finish with.
Philip PirripGood24 Apr 2025 First pint out of new cask on. Basic malty bitter
Hogan SamplingGood24 Apr 2025 Just came on as I was sinking my second pint of the Oakham Citra. This Bristol-based bitter was a touch fresh but presenting good head and lacing having finally escaped from its occupation in the cask. A first hit of malty bitterness. This continued into the mouthfeel with a hoppiness coming to the fore thanks to a good measure of Gold and Goldings hops in the mix and lingering.
Philip PirripGood13 Apr 2025 Rather malty
Hogan SamplingGood13 Apr 2025 Second night on and holding its head and lacing very well on this Bristol bitter. A dry bitter first hit. A bitter and malty mouthfeel combined. A malty kick to it in its aftertaste and a dry bitterness alongside a hoppy fruit-infused finish.
Hogan SamplingGood12 Apr 2025 Fresh on today and so good head and lacing on this Bristol bitter and holding to the end. A dry malty first hit. A malty and earthy bitterness coming through. A fruity hoppiness lingering from those Gold and Goldings hops.

Hogan SamplingGood29 Jan 2025 Fresh on and replaced the Gadds' and came with good head and lacing. This Bristol Bitter had a very dry first hit. A very bitter, bitter with the dryness lingering. Nothing sweet about it and contrasted with the toffee in the Gadds' just before.

Hogan SamplingAcceptable19 Jan 2025 Reasonable head and lacing on this Bristol bitter. It came with a sharp first hit followed by a cloying mouthfeel and so tasting somewhat sweet for my liking. It had a dry bitter aftertaste to it. One sufficed.
Hogan SamplingNot Tried08 Dec 2024 Ran out on placing my order for it.

Hogan SamplingAcceptable07 Dec 2024 New on today but only had partial head and lacing. A good bitter mouthfeel with a dry aftertaste.
Hogan SamplingAcceptable20 Sep 2024 New on today but not a lot of carbonation and what was there soon evaporated. Described as unfined on tasting notes but as clear as a bell. Sweet mouthfeel like a good biscuit should be. No amount of decanting helped rejuvenate any bubbles as tried this a few good times. Its predecessor, the Tonbridge Traditional bitter, only lasted from its launch the previous evening into Friday's early afternoon opening and was then supped up by late Friday evening but it sets a fine example of how any bitter should be presented with great head and lacing.
