| Hogan Sampling | ![]() | 21 Feb 2026 | Presented with very good head and lacing and sticking all the way on this chestnut-coloured bitter from an independent brewery based in Downton near Salisbury, Wiltshire*, that has been operating since 2003. A dry malty first hit with a fruited hedgerow edge. A hoppy bitterness rising from hop varieties such as Challenger, East Kent Goldings and Pioneer that they are known to use in their other bitters such as New Forest. A good malty note joining in with hints of caramel and biscuit from their English malts used and likely to be Maris Otter, Crystal, and roasted barley. A dry hoppy bitterness paddling out. In very good form and extremely moreish in its lasting hoppy and malty flavourings. *The brewery’s specialties include: IPAs, Imperial Stouts and high-gravity bottled-conditioned beers. |
