Ten minutes before 22.00 closing I needed a quick 'quaffing ale' before my train home and much to my surprise it came up trumps!
Tap East - No. 6 Blonde | 4.10 | | Light hoppy and refreshingly citrusy hit the spot! |
Tap East - Bru - 1 | 4.30 | Not Tried
Tap East - 11th Birthday Beer | 5.50 | Not Tried
19 Dec 2022 (Philip Pirrip)
Brief lunchtime half visit in honour of ChrisE whose funeral is later today and used to love this place as his pre-High Speed train home to Ashford waiting room.
Tap East - Beech Smoked Porter | 5.30 | | Authentic taste in prime condition |
Tap East - Bru - 1 | 4.30 | Not Tried
04 Nov 2022 (Magnus Greel)
Despite the souless cold atmosphere here it was handy for killing 30 minutes before my train home. Now consigned to the history book of fallen 'craze' pubs!
Vale of Glamorgan (VOG) - Hotel Barrifornia | 4.00 | | Even a subtle hint of spice didn't make this bland watery fare exciting. |
Tap East - Built Different Brown Ale | 4.30 | Not Tried
17 Jun 2022 (Magnus Greel)
Mid evening and not as busy as expected so we perched at one of the many free tables and had 'one for the road'. The lack of entries over the past two years makes this once popular venue seem neglected and unloved...
Tap East - East End Mild | 3.50 | | A most nutritious plums and figs broth. |
Tap East - No. 6 Blonde | 4.10 | Not Tried
Tap East - June Brown Ale | 4.50 | Not Tried
15 Feb 2022 (Magnus Greel)
21.04 visit and just missed last orders, the barmaid apologetically advised me 21.00 is last orders here Monday to Wednesday. I was so looking forward to putting this back on the P&B radar.
28 Jun 2021 (Magnus Greel)
22.25 visit alas this was going to be my final stop before taking my launch pad back to Kent but thanks to Co-Vid this place currently closes at 21.00. The good old days of Stephen Harris and Philip Pirrip frequenting this place seem sadly gone..
20 Jul 2020 (Stephen Harris)
They are still ticking over with just one cask beer in here. A bit busier this-afternoon, but there is no pressure for tables.
Pillars - Rebel Helles | 4.80 | | From keg. A really good Hell Lager in the Bavarian style - from far away Walthamstow. |
Tap East - Smokestack Porter | 6.50 | | From key-keg. One of my favourite beers, but not as fully rounded as the cask version I am used to. |
Tap East - A.P.A. (American Pale Ale) | 4.30 | | Still not at its best to my palate. |
07 Jul 2020 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening and a steady flow of customers. Tables have been widely spaced and capacity is quite low, inside at least. In theory you are supposed to book a table in advance, but apparently very few people have done so. It's table service only and I have to give a name and email address. Just one cask beer initially.
Ridgeside - Milky Joe | 5.60 | | From key-keg. Milk Stout. Strong coffee flavours, giving a dry finish. Lactose sweetness. |
Tap East - A.P.A. (American Pale Ale) | 4.30 | | Not at its best. A bit 'green'. Apparently it was tapped on Friday, but the staff do not disagree with my assessment. |
Tap East - Wintermute | 5.60 | | Key-keg. A lemon and lime Pale Ale. Kaffir and Equanot hops. |
20 Mar 2020 (Stephen Harris)
Just me, a brewer and a barmaid in here when the inevitable news broke that pubs are to close on health grounds. People started pouring in, and, just as quickly, I left.
Tap East - Smokestack Porter | 6.00
Tap East - A.P.A. (American Pale Ale) | 4.30 | Not Tried
Tap East - No. 6 Blonde | 4.10 | Not Tried
Reunion - Engage! | 3.70 | Not Tried
19 Mar 2020 (Stephen Harris)
Only a couple of customers and a distinct feeling that pubs are living on borrowed time.

Tap East - Smokestack Porter | 6.00
Tap East - No. 6 Blonde | 4.10 | Not Tried
