Apparently legendary in status. Heaving although we managed to get a seat when someone left. Funny pub. For all the people and noise and bustle, it didn't strike me has having much atmosphere. The walls were a bit clinical, and the high ceilings and bright light levels didn't help.
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Pale Rider | 5.20 | | A champion beer of Brittan, in the brewers own pub. Umm. Well, we moved on swiftly - not because it was off, or bad, just not overly interesting. |
Parkway (formerly Glastonbury Ales) - Beaky Blinder | 4.40 | | Served well, but a weird oaky flavour really put me off. |

03 May 2017 (Magnus Greel)
Mid to late afternoon on a cold grey day, one other customer in the bar area soon joined by others. My first visit in over 15 years and has not changed a bit, unlike the surrounding area which is undergoing major redevelopment.
S43 (formerly Sonnet 43) - I Shall But Love | 6.80 | | Described as a toasted mocha coconut porter. Did what it said on the clip and accompanied my pork pie perfectly. |

My first visit here, disappointed as there was no room inside. Had my pint on the pavement outside. Loads of beers on but no room to note.
Derventio - King Arthur | 4.30
11 Oct 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Inevitably crowded on a Saturday evening. I sat in the rear garden for the first time since the summer of 1989 (have I mentioned that I have a good memory for pub visits?). I have not taken note of the full list of beers available.
Sheffield - Nugget | 4.00 | | Pale, sharp, fruity. |
Black Iris - Nelson Sauvin | 4.00 | | Oh yes! There doesn’t seem to have been much Nelson Sauvin hop around lately – perhaps because it is all in here. |
Welbeck Abbey - Night Watchman | 5.60 | | Excellent smoked Stout. |

01 Feb 2014 (Stephen Harris)
The original destination real ale pub in Sheffield, and still always worth a visit. Everyone knows this; so it was packed. I stuck it out in the corridor, only spotting my elusive friends in the main bar as I was leaving. I really should pay more attention to incoming text messages.
Black Rock - Pale Ale | 4.20 | | Pale gold, hoppy and refreshing. |
Holsworthy - Old Market Monk | 6.10 | | Amber-coloured. Said to be in a Belgian style. Too malty for my liking. |

15 Dec 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Superb atmosphere as ever here, busy but managed to squeeze into the front room.
Abraham Thompson - Madagascar stout | 3.90 | | Fantastic flavour for such a low strength in a stout. Chocolate, coffee, toffee and berry fruits combine to give a superb thick beer. My score 18/20. |
On the Edge - Smokey Peat's Winter Stout | 4.10 | | Excellent flavoursome stout for its strength with roast coffee and dark chocolate malt flavours and a good dose of hops. Full bodied mouthfeel. My score 17/20. |
Salamander - Orient Tar | 4.50 | | Roasty stout with good coffee malt bitterness and some hop for balance. Full bodied with a dry roast finish. My score 16/20. |
16 Nov 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy mid afternoon on a Friday.
Castle Rock - Shaggy Ink Cap | 4.50 | | Dark brown porter with chocolate and vanilla notes. Full bodied with a smooth, malty finish. My score 17/20. |

Pleasantly buzzing on a Friday afternoon.

29 Sep 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy with the usual atmospheric buzz.

Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Late Star | 5.00 | Not Tried
